Habitats & History: A Collection in Photo Expressionism by Jim Miller:28 West Second Gallery & Studio Space presents Habitats & History: A Collection in Photo-Expressionism by Jim Miller. Artist reception is Saturday November 7, 2009, 7 - 10 PM. Artist, writer and archeologist Jim Miller's paintings originate from personal photographs, then he recreates them. He has coined this method as "photo expressionism" differing from photo realism because it is only a representation of the original photograph. Thus, we are merely spectators in Mr. Miller's versions of events. Experiences such as archaeological digs and painting industrial remains of Western Pennsylvania, inspired Mr. Miller to call upon his own historical roots and conjure up self-discovery with this presented collection of works. Mr. Miller's past life's experiences make a good history read in itself. He once lived the quiet monastic life at St. Vincent's Benedictine Monastery; after that he took off for New York City to study art; returned to Pennsylvania, started an art commune in an old converted glass factory; lived as the artist-in-residence in the historical home of deceased well-known artist Malcom Parcell, while working on local archeological digs in Washington County.
